Say that several thousand years in the future teleportation has been perfected and the way it works is to make an exact duplicate of a human being including everything in the immediate vicinity like clothes, briefcase, shoes, etc. and reproducing all of this at the destination. The exact atomic configuration will be reproduced with each atom at the exact same energy level and same location with respect to all other atoms. Then the original is destroyed by instantly converting it to separate chemicals. The question to ponder is: "Would you accept this method of travel?" It really comes down to whether or not you believe consciousness is something separate from your physical existence or a part of it.
This is interesting..why put it in the future? Is it to credit the process? Mort Sahl did a funny routine concerning the same type of thing..his platform was a baggage system for TWA..people would be broken down atomically and then put back together at the destination..he said 'it is bound to cause problems..considering the quality of TWA's baggage system today'..if one has to be deleted at the time the other is created would the point just be travel?..I think so..I believe speed on the surface of this planet is fast enough..to teleport through space is another matter. I still think truth and the many variables surrounding each thing are determined in social, realistic weight and validity by passing time. A window if you will..still..to move with the excellence and perfection suggested in your post is neat..Peace Tony
